Info on Baseboard Electrical Heater Systems and
Installation
The electric baseboard heater uses convection to
circulate air. By superior design and proper placement
under a window area, the electric baseboard case causes
air to flow naturally. The cold air falls from the window
area as the warm air rises from the heater, causing the
air to tumble gently throughout the room. The electric
baseboard heater is the number one choice for low cost
installation, and the quiet operation makes it the
preferred heater for bedrooms. Cadet recommends a
wall-mounted thermostat for optimum performance, or you
may prefer the convenience of an optional field mount
thermostat kit.
First things first, make sure you have all the
necessary tools, screws, nails, hammer and the actual
baseboard heater you want to install. You’ll also need
safety glasses and gloves, wire cutters, screwdrivers, a
crowbar, drill bits, measuring tape, and a sander. Then
make sure you have enough time to finish the project,
without having to rush off for something in the middle of
it, it’s better to get it done in one go. If you are
handy around the house and like to build and repair
things yourself, you should already have all the required
tools for this job.
If you already have a baseboard electrical
heater system, you will need to remove that one first. As
with any project that involves electricity and wiring,
you will need to turn the power off at the fuse box or
circuit breaker, so that no electrical current goes
through the unit, this should keep you safe while you are
wiring and negate the need for a trip to the hospital to
treat electric shock. Next, remove the retaining screw so
you can get the old baseboard electrical heater system
off the wall, clip the ends of the wires and place wire
nuts on the ends as a safety precaution. Once you have the old
heater off the wall, remove any paneling or debris from
behind the heater area. No the old heater is removed and
the wall is free from debris, you are ready to install
your new baseboard electrical heater system.
Then you will need to fix the new heater in
place of the old one, making sure you follow all
necessary safety procedures on the box. It may pay to get a
qualified professional to finfish the job if you are not
sure what you are doing.
